I'm Not Running from Anything

Friday, July 31, 2015

I did not reveal that I was moving out of the country until the details had been solidified: I mean contracts signed, house sold, resignation to steady job submitted. Basically, I was at the "point of no return" by the time I opened my mouth. I had a number of things going on in my life prior to my move that were particularly stressful and overwhelming at times, but I'm pretty resilient. I left Atlanta on good terms and look forward to visiting as often as possible. I consider the city home, and it now holds a very special place in my heart.

When I finally broke the news, I got several questions ranging from "why are you going over there?" to "no sense in running... the U.S. is the best anyway". Most of these comments were usually from folk who had never left the country, and for many, had never even left their city.

A lot of times people say unsupportive things under the guise of concern; frankly, negative projection. The people in question would never even think of leaving their comfort zones. And I needed all the support I could get versus hearing others speak negatively over my blessing.

Now that I'm here I'm glad I made the jump. I mentioned before that I had been at this for a number of years so to have it finally come to fruition is a dream come true.

When I finally settle down I want to be able to say that I did every single thing that I wanted in life. And regardless of how this experience pans out I will be able to do just that. The best way to boost your confidence is to do exactly what you're afraid to do. Again I say: there is no growth within the space of comfort.

I'm not running from anything or anyone, I'm simply trying to live my life.

That said, Helloooooooo Korea!
