KOREA: Six Month Update

by - Wednesday, January 27, 2016

Greetings Everyone:

Hard to believe this was six months ago, time flies!

I realize that it has been a while since I've posted anything about South Korea. I can't (but can) believe how quickly time is moving. I have been here for six months. WOW. So far the experience has been grand. I will knock on wood, but I have acclimated quite well and continue to enjoy life here.

Lord knows my ADHD is really real, but I started this blog in an effort to keep my loved ones back in the states abreast of how life was going for me abroad. It has kinda morphed into its own thing, in recent months mostly focused on my travels. In case you haven't noticed, it's a big part of my life :-)

South Korea right now is...cold. Since my return from Oceania, it has snowed three or four times and the temps continue to fall. Yesterday was one of the highest smog alerts I've seen since I've been here. In Spring, the yellow dust pollutants will come down from China, and life will get interesting. The low this past weekend was -11. I'm hanging in there, though.

My kiddos are hoping for the best for admission decisions in the coming months. I don't talk a lot about my work on here (intentionally) but it has been a wonderful experience as well.

I am past the culture shock that I initially struggled with. Sunglasses and headphones work wonders in public spaces :-)

I am getting ready for my sorority's Emerald Ball, a charity event that is sure to be grand and entertaining. I had an emerald gown tailor made for the occasion, and I'm very excited about this in and of itself. It will be my first custom piece ever. Korea has truly ruined me for any place else :-)

I am gearing up for yet another trip during the Lunar New Year holiday next month. I will be heading to Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia and Phuket in Thailand-finally Thailand! I'm pretty somber about the trip to Thailand, though. I really just want to relax, and minus partaking in Super Bowl festivities abroad, just relax I shall. I'll also be traveling significantly for work in February and March. I'm looking forward to keeping busy.

We started summer travel planning today. I will be leaving from Seoul on June 16. I will spend some time on the west coast and Canada before heading to ATL to see my family, friends and for my sorority's national conference. After that I'll head up to D.C. to see about my sister, maybe catch a quick flight deal thereafter, before returning to Seoul on July 27. Whew! So much to prepare for and it seems so far off. For perspective: it's January 28. Wasn't I JUST wishing everyone a Happy New Year a minute ago??

All in all, loved ones: 2016 is off to a grand start, and the last six months have been a-okay. Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers for the next six. This is truly a dream come true; I'm soaking it all in, and I'm hoping to finish the first part of it on a good note.

  2. So excited to read about your time in Kuala Lumpur - that was one of the destinations on our Asia itinerary for this spring that we'll likely have to cancel. Which reminds me that I need to call the airline. I saw that you're an AKA - you and my mom are sorors. :-) Anyway, wishing you fun and safe travels!
